So what makes us tick at Reedapt?

Well, for me, Star Trek. But first, let us reason as to what motivates man; this man and his genius friends building Reedapt. It is true that humans are shaped first by the four major factors; their immediate family setting, their culture, the things that they consume, and the things that consume them, for without these no man can be complete.
I was born and spent most of my developmental years in a town called Saki, a border town in Oyo state Nigeria. To a young couple who were both language majors, I was essentially born with the linguistic command of the English language. So, at home, I mastered the basic command of the English language so that I could pay attention to the other languages that made up the linguistic cross section of the beautiful town.

Pay attention to that because that was the first factor that shaped me.

"Eni a n wo, kii woran" My mom would say to me everytime she caught me in the act of watching movies (Eddie Murphy's Dr. Dolittle, Showtime and Norbit were my go to, and whenever I was feeling particularly hubristic, I would watch some James Bond - Daniel Craig's version ofc). Each time I had an argument with my mom about how inaccurate this proverb was when it came to me, I ended up getting spanked! Because context doesn't exist in Yoruba as it does in English and so I ended up inadvertently calling our "elders" stupid.

My culture, while trying to emphasize the importance of not getting so lost in the awe and splendor of great people, had severely underestimated the importance of getting inspired by the greatness of others and how much the human mind can be controlled by what we see and what our sensory organs consume. Well, I was insulted by the sheer ignorance the proverb is laced with, and a large portion of my life has been proof that consuming and internalizing the right content is indeed a major catalyst for growth, change, divergence and uncommon success. But hey, I'm the one currently writing an article in my parent's house trying to get my startup off the ground, not you, so we'll see in a few years lol.

Fast forward a few years later, man was ploughing through boarding school, taking strokes of the cane in the ass and kicking names. For me, this was just life, because you see, I believe in enjoying every moment to the fullest. "Carpe MFkN Diem" I would always tell myself every time i got in trouble (i was a true scallywag tho - far be it from me that i conform and be a good boy!)

However, two things motivated me in secondary school. Remember how I said Saki was a border town of many characters? Well, it turns out it shares a border with the Republic of Benin; one of France's African colonies. Also, remember how I said I had time to learn other languages outside, one of them was French, and boy was I good at it!

Till the "French" kids came and kicked my ass in Secondary school that is hehehe.

You see, the thing with any rural area is that it's easy to win people who have never seen the world over with the barest minimum. And these "French" kids came with everything - including a foreign language pre-installed in their Operating systems of course, so they didn't really have to try.

As you can imagine, or have probably experienced with some Europeans, the awkward feeling of getting isolated and being treated as an outsider in your home was extremely nerve-wrecking, however, the beginning of my villain arc wasn't until "La Conjugaison Francaise" French conjugation started kicking my ass. Boy oh Boy was I mad driven mad! In my rebellion against my language, I decided to take French in Senior Secondary School; alongside five other guys, one of which was Ben. Now, Ben wasn't your run-of-the-mill "French" kid. Infact, Ben is Yoruba, he just happened to be born there. Which wasn't a problem for me, until he started outperforming all of us in French class (His original OS configuration for chrissakes!)

Ben would do better than us, and refuse to help us, especially when we asked for help. Ben wouldn't speak French to us Nigerian born low-lives because God Forbid the language of the "creme de la creme de la societe" be passed over to us village boys! (Like the Francophone territories were the masters and originators of the French language).

It was so bad, that sometimes, some of the people around us would poke fun at us for "not being able to beat Ben in French class". Now, you have to imagine that for someone like me, it was more than just a joke, I was used to being known as the one who had massive potential but chose to underperform everywhere else apart from French. At least, before Ben came, I was the unserious guy with great potential. But now, I was the Unserious guy, period, just another bozo in a sea of unserious bozos. "Ah, God forbid that I blend into the crown of unserious bozos - I wanted to be THE UNSERIOUS BOZO!"

So I decided to use some of that potential. I read - a lot, I read to the point that I eventually caught up to him - after 5 years! (what'd you think this was? A Hollywood movie?). At a point, I even traded some of my provisions just to learn new French words, just to get an upper hand.

I was so consumed with closing that unfair language gap I had to go to study French before I could catch up to Ben! So in my second year of studying French Arts in the university, having seen first hand the great divide caused by language and cultural egoism, I vowed to myself that if there was a way to close the language gap technologically speaking, I would. But the technology wasn't around then, AI was only for Big tech and the Millitary in 2020 and everyone I described this magical device inspired by Star Trek's Lt Uhura thought i was crazy.Apparently, I can see the future because what do you know, a year later, ChatGPT would come out into the world.

So why have I told you my story? Because I believe that there is no one else better equipped with the passion, the drive and the expertise to embark on this journey of bridging the 2000 year-old gap between worlds than me and my team at Reedapt. No one is more passionate about giving you a voice than me, no one knows more than I do the feeling of having ideas and watching the world pass you by simply because you don't speak the language of the world, because you don't have access to resources others do because of where you were born. No one wants the divide gone more than I do.
