How to use Paraklet

You speak, and Paraklet transcribes, translates and speaks your words in other languages in real time — through your speakers, or streamed to your audience.

What Paraklet does

Paraklet is built for two kinds of user:

  • Translators and interpreters — in-person or one-off interpretation played through local speakers, with no streaming.
  • Streamers and event hosts — churches, conferences and live events that send translated audio through OBS to Reedapt Live or another platform.

With it you can:

  • Translate speech into one or several languages at once, from a single microphone.
  • Play the translation locally, stream it out, or both.
  • Schedule live sessions ahead of time, including repeats.
  • Follow the live transcript and translation on screen, and get a summary when the session ends.

Getting started

What you need

  • Windows 10 or 11.
  • An internet connection. Translation runs in the cloud, and sign-in needs it too.
  • A microphone.
  • To stream: OBS Studio, or any software that accepts an SRT or RTMP input.

Install

  1. Download Paraklet.exe and open it. It's one app file with nothing to install: keep it somewhere you'll find it again, like your Desktop.
  2. If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”, choose More info, then Run anyway.
Connection Error
Paraklet couldn't reach the server. Check your internet connection and relaunch.

Create an account or sign in

  • Create account — with a username, email and password, or Continue with Google.
  • Sign in — with your username and password, or Google.
  • Continue without an account — guest mode. You can translate straight away, but nothing is saved and the session ends when you close the window.

Google sign-in opens your browser and hands you back to Paraklet once you approve. A sign-in lasts 7 days.

First-time setup

  1. How will you use Paraklet? As a translator for in-person interpretation with no streaming, or To stream for events, services and sermons that go out through OBS.
  2. Choose your language — the language to translate into. You can add more later.

You then land on the Dashboard, ready to start a session.

Live sessions

The sidebar has five areas — Dashboard, Schedule, Channel setup, Pricing and Settings — plus Logout.

The Dashboard

Every session you've created is listed with its title, output languages, status (Live, Scheduled, Pending or Ended) and when it was created. From each row you can Go Live on a scheduled or pending session, Rejoinone that's live, or delete it. Deleting can't be undone.

While a session is running, Dashboard in the sidebar takes you back to it.

Start a session

  1. On the Dashboard, click Start interpretation.
  2. The first time, Audio Settings opens. Give the session a title, choose your microphone and speaker, and apply. Paraklet remembers them and skips this step next time.
  3. Set the Input language — the language being spoken.
  4. Set the Output language. + Add adds more, × removes one, and ⇅ swaps the input with the first output.
  5. Optionally, upload a thumbnail (PNG or JPEG).
  6. Choose Video (OBS) for a full video stream, or Audio for audio only.
  7. Click Create Session. It changes to Session Ready and translation starts.
  8. Pick the translated voice: Auto, Male or Female. Auto matches the speaker's voice.

Your language choices are filled in for you next time.

During a session

Mic button
Tap to pause, tap again to resume. A red dot and timer show recording time; yellow means paused.
Live Output
Each phrase with its translation, newest first, with the time and latency.
Music
Turn on while music plays, such as worship or an intermission, so lyrics and background sound aren't translated.
Reedapt Live
Streams to your audience. It switches on by itself 2 seconds after the session is created.
Audio Devices
Your current mic and speakers; Audio Settings changes them.
End Session
Stops translation and opens the session summary.

Session summary

When a session ends you see its duration, audio source, language pair (for example EN-FR) and a Playback URL for the recording of the stream. Closing it returns you to the Dashboard.

Audio settings

Open them from Settings in the sidebar, or Audio Settings during a session. They're saved on this computer.

Speaker
Output device, volume and mute. Test plays a sample sound.
Output channels
Which channels of a multi-channel device carry the translation.
Microphone
Input device, mute and a mic test.
Input channels
Which channels of a multi-channel mic or interface to listen to.
Spatial audio
Off by default.
Noise suppression
On by default. Reduces background noise before transcription.

Scheduling

Schedule a live session, or a pre-recorded video, ahead of time. The Schedule page has a tab for each.

Schedule a live session

  1. Click Schedule and choose Go live.
  2. Enter a title and an optional description, and pick the date and time. Viewers see it in their own time zone.
  3. Choose a category, a voice (Auto, Male or Female) and a stream type (Video via OBS, or Audio only).
  4. Optionally, repeat it on chosen weekdays — every Sunday and Wednesday, say. Repeats are created for the next 4 weeks.
  5. Add a thumbnail if you like, then choose output languages.
  6. Review and confirm.

Schedule a video

  1. Click Schedule and choose Play a video.
  2. Fill in the title, description, date and time, category and thumbnail.
  3. Upload the video. Large files take a while — keep the window open.
  4. When Paraklet has finished preparing it, click Schedule video.
  • A video must be scheduled at least 5 minutes ahead. Once it's created you can't go back a step.
  • Two schedules within 60 minutes of each other are flagged as overlapping, but you can still go ahead.
  • A schedule's menu lets you edit its title and time, delete it, or copy its link to share.

Going live on schedule

When a scheduled session is due, Paraklet asks whether to go live, for up to 10 minutes after the start time. Accepting opens the session with its languages, voice, stream type and thumbnail already filled in. If another session is still running, you're asked to end it first.

Channel setup

Set how your channel looks on Reedapt Live: banner, photo, channel name, handle, an optional bio, and the languages new viewers see first. A preview shows your channel page as viewers will. Save keeps your changes; Cancel discards them.

Streaming

Paraklet sends each translated language as its own audio stream. Your video goes through OBS to Reedapt Live, where viewers pick their language. With Reedapt Live on during a session, Paraklet fetches your stream details for you.

Connect OBS

  1. Create a session with Video (OBS).
  2. In the Reedapt Live card, copy the Server and Stream key. The eye icon reveals the key.
  3. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, paste them in, and click Start Streaming.

The full walkthrough, with the output settings to use, is in How to stream to Reedapt Live with OBS.

Keep your stream key private — anyone with it can stream to your channel.

Translated audio over SRT

Each output language gets its own SRT address, filled in from Reedapt Live. You can replace it with your own destination, such as srt://ingest.example.com:9000?streamid=live/key, and add a passphrase if it needs one.

Audio only

Choose Audioinstead of Video (OBS) when you only need translated audio — a radio-style broadcast, or interpretation fed into an existing sound system. You don't need OBS.

Other platforms

Every plan, Free included, can stream to Reedapt Live, where viewers choose their language, and to YouTube, Twitch or any other platform through OBS.

Local playback and multi-channel output

Without streaming, translations play through your chosen speakers. With a multi-channel interface or mixer, use the output channels in Audio settings to send each language to its own channels — to feed interpretation headsets or separate rooms.

FAQ

Do I need an account?
No. Continue without an account lets you use your free 60minutes right away, but nothing is saved.
How many languages can I translate into at once?
One on Free, up to 2 on Standard and up to 5on Pro or Enterprise. They all share one listening pass, so adding languages doesn't slow anything down.
Can it match the speaker's voice?
Yes. With the voice on Auto, it detects the speaker's pitch and picks a matching voice.
What happens during music?
Turn on Music so songs aren't translated. Paraklet also detects music by itself.
Will it translate its own voice?
No. If your mic picks up the speakers, Paraklet recognises its own audio and ignores it.
Does it run on a Mac?
Not yet. The app is Windows only.
Where's my recording?
The session summary shows a Playback URL when you end a session.

Troubleshooting

“Connection Error” at launch
Check your internet connection, then relaunch Paraklet.
“Windows protected your PC”
Windows shows this for apps it doesn't recognise yet. Choose More info, then Run anyway.
No microphone found
Plug in the mic, check Windows sound settings and microphone privacy, then reopen Audio Settings.
No sound from translation
Use the speaker Test button, and check the right output device and channels are selected and not muted.
“Failed to start session”
Check your connection and that a microphone is selected, then try again.
Translation lags
Use a wired connection, turn on Noise suppression, and keep the mic close to the speaker.
OBS won't connect
Copy the Server and Stream key again, and check the Service in OBS's stream settings.
